The Wake Forest’s men’s track and field team posted an 11th-place finish at the ACC Indoor Championships and a 12th-place finish at the ACC Outdoor Championships. Between the two meets, the Deacon men collected nine All-ACC honors, including three first-team plaudits and indoor and outdoor 800m titles by freshman Robert Heppenstall. Heppenstall placed fifth in the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships and eighth in the event at the NCAA Outdoors to become a First Team All-American in both seasons. The Hamilton, Ontario native was also named the ACC Freshman of the Year both indoors and outdoors. Heppenstall and junior Charlie Ionata both took down school records in 2015-16. Heppenstall broke the Demon Deacon, ACC Championships and Canadian Junior indoor 800m records with a time of 1:47.35, while Ionata broke his own Deacon record with a 65.15m hammer throw at the Wake Forest Open.
