Women’s Track and Field

  • Indoor: 14th at ACC Championships
  • Outdoor: 12th at ACC Championships

The Demon Deacon women’s track and field team placed 14th at the ACC Indoor Championships and 12th at the conference outdoor meet. At those meets, the Deacs totaled seven All-ACC performances, headlined by first-team outdoor showings by junior Casidy Callahan and senior Jessie Merckle, who won her third-career ACC javelin title. Merckle went on to garner All-America honors for the third time by placing 10th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Five school records fell during the 2015-16 season. Merckle topped her own javelin mark with a toss of 56.91m, while freshman Alva Hicks took down the Deacons’ weight throw and hammer throw records and Sydney White topped her own Wake Forest records in the indoor and outdoor pole vault. White’s outdoor record of 4.25m earned the senior ACC Field Performer of the Week honors—rookie Alexandria Florent received the same award for her personal-record high jump mark of 1.78m at the Wake Forest Open.
